Life cycle energy-economy-environmental evaluation of coal-based CLC power plant vs. IGCC, USC and oxy-combustion power plants with/without CO2 capture

چکیده
Coal-based chemical looping combustion (CLC) power plant presents itself as a promising technology due to its low energy penalty which is associated with inherent CO2 capture process. However, most evaluations and comparisons (energy efficiency, economic, environmental aspects) of the CLC generally were focused on operation stage. Life cycle assessment (LCA) method “cradle gate” model involving construction, operation, decommissioning stage,of coal-based plants was established. Following that resource consumption, impact potential, economic performance in life cycle, comprehensively compared between other such IGCC, USC oxy-combustion without (w/o) capture, find out potential deficiency perspective. Results showed consumption accounts for largest proportion total (81.88–91.89%) six coal-fired plants. Among potentials, smoke dust (SAP) has highest value while eutrophication (EP) resulted lowest presented depletion indicator, payback ratio costs, at 4.79 × 10?6 kWh/person/day, 3.22, 0.138 $/kWh, respectively. These ranked from according their sustainability following USC, CLC, oxy-CCS, USC-CCS, IGCC-CCS. best all capture. The will be one attractive options carbon reduction systems, development further improves efficiency performance. results demonstrated can solve issues emission utilization coal generation process lifecycle viewpoint.

Energy and exergy analysis of chemical looping combustion technology and comparison with pre-combustion and oxy-fuel combustion technologies for CO2 capture
Carbon dioxide (CO2) emitted from conventional coal-based power plants is a growing concern for the environment. Chemical looping combustion (CLC), pre-combustion and oxy-fuel combustion are promising CO2 capture technologies which allow clean electricity generation from coal in an integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC) power plant. This work compares the characteristics of the above thr...
متن کاملProcess Integration in Coal based Oxy-Combustion Power Plants
The oxy-combustion technology is ready for demonstration [1]. However, the energy penalty and investment cost related to CO2 capture are still too high to implement this technology in the power industry. The thermal efficiency penalty is currently around 10% points, and as discussed in [2] it is commonly expected to be reduced to below 6% points in the near future. Improvements on the sub-units...

CO2 CAPTURE OPTIONS FOR AN EXISTING COAL FIRED POWER PLANT: O2/CO2 RECYCLE COMBUSTION vs. AMINE SCRUBBING
The existing fleet of modern pulverized coal fired power plants represents an opportunity to achieve significant greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the coming years providing efficient and economical CO2 capture technologies are available for retrofit. One option is to separate CO2 from the products of combustion using conventional approaches such as amine scrubbing. An emerging alternate, commo...
متن کاملEnvironmental-economic evaluation of sugar cane bagasse gasification power plants versus combined-cycle gas power plants
Approximately 2.4 million tons of bagasse are produced each year in Iran, most of which are currently treated as waste adding to serious environmental concerns. Application of bagasse for energy production is a sustainable solution to supply the required energy within the sugar refineries and export the surplus electricity to the grid. Currently, the energy demand in Iranian sugar mills is main...
